Wal-Mart opens its first
store in Yantai

Yantai, Date, June 15th, 2006 – Today, Wal-Mart celebrated
the grand opening of its first store in Yantai, Shandong Province – the
Wal-Mart Supercenter Yantai Haigang Road Store. Officials from
Yantai Municipal Government joined leaders from Wal-Mart (China)
Investment Co., Ltd. at the opening ceremony.
Following the Company’s tradition of Good Works, Wal-Mart
donated RMB 200,000 to local Red Cross Association to support
local charity and environmental protection projects. Half of
the grant will be donated to Social Welfare Center in Zhifu District,
Yantai City for equipments such as computers, projectors, pianos,
and drums etc. The other 100,000 will be donated to two villages,
Dazhai village, Xixia Guanli town and Lu’ergang village,
Laiyang Zhaowang town for the construction of drinking water
project to improve living standard and health condition of the
villagers.
At the opening ceremony, officials from various government organizations
expressed their welcome and appreciation for the Wal-Mart Store
in Yantai city. They expect that Wal-Mart will continue to bring
along advanced retail expertise and to promote the development
of logistics and manufacture industry. Mr. Stanley Yu, Vice President
of Wal-Mart (China) Investment Co., Ltd. & COO, said that
Wal-Mart had operated 58 outlets in 28 cities since it entered
China almost ten years ago. Yantai Store is the 59th outlet we
opened in China, also the forth stores we have in Shandong. Wal-Mart
is confident that it will be well received by Yantai residents
and will contribute to Yantai economy.
Located on the underground floor of Yantai Sunshine International
Plaza at Haigang Road in Yantai, the new Wal-Mart Supercenter
has a floor area around 15,000 square meters, offering nearly
18,000 merchandises ranging from fresh foods, apparels, household
electrical appliances etc. It also has three special service
areas featuring optical service, jewelry and photo service. As
a return to customers’ support, Wal-Mart Yantai Haigang
store offers great value merchandises and provides a series of
entertainment events during the grand opening.
