Wal-Mart Opens the First
Store
in Yuxi, Yunnan Province

(December 9, 2005, Yuxi, Yunnan) Today, the world’s largest
retailer Wal-Mart celebrated the grand opening of its first store
in Yuxi, Wal-Mart Supercenter Yuxi Dongfeng Square Store, located
nearby Dongfeng Square in Hongta District. Mr. Li Shu Fu, Vice
Mayor of Yuxi government and officials from Hongta District attended
the ceremony. In addition, attendees from Wal-Mart included Mr.
Joe Hatfield, Senior Vice President of Wal-Mart Stores, Inc.
and President & CEO of Wal-Mart Asia.
At the opening of Wal-Mart Supercenter Dongfeng Square Store,
Wal-Mart donated RMB 200,000 to Yuxi Committee of Communist Youth
League for water vaults’ construction for those farmers
living in droughty areas. This project will make contribution
for improving the farmers’ living condition. Mr. Stanley
Yu, Vice President & COO of Wal-Mart China said that Wal-Mart
had operated 52 outlets in 24 cities since it entered China almost
ten years ago. Supercenter is the major business format of Wal-Mart
China, providing customers with high quality merchandise at low
prices under the philosophy of “Every Day Low Price”.
Wal-Mart associates are committed to providing the customers
with great shopping experience. With over 20,000 merchandising
items, the new Wal-Mart store will be able to provide customers
with a “One Stop Shopping” experience, saving them
time and money.
Wal-Mart Supercenter Dongfeng Square Store occupies a construction
area of 17,000 square meters; it carries about 20,000 items,
including fresh foods, frozen foods, optical products and jewelry,
etc. In appreciation of the customers’ support, Wal-Mart
will offer great promotional valued merchandise and provide a
series of retailtainment events during the grand opening.
Wal-Mart China opened its first Supercenter and SAM’S CLUB in August
1996 in Shenzhen. Till now, Wal-Mart China has operated 52 stores in 24 cities,
including Shenzhen, Kunming, Fuzhou, Dalian, Xiamen, Shantou, Dongguan, Harbin,
Changchun, Shenyang, Changsha, Beijing, Nanchang, Jinan, Qingdao, Tianjin,
Nanjing, Nanning, Guiyang, Wuhan, Taiyuan, Chongqing, Shanghai and Jinjiang.
Wal-Mart Supercenter Dongfeng Square Store is the 53rd unit opened in China.
