Wal-Mart Opens the First Store
in Jinjiang, Fujian Province

(November 26, 2005, Jinjiang, Fujian) Today, the world’s largest retailer Wal-Mart celebrated the grand opening of its first store in Jinjiang, Wal-Mart Supercenter Jinjiang SM Store, located on SM International Square. Officials from central government, Fujian Province, and Quanzhou city attended the ceremony. In addition, attendees from Wal-Mart included Mr. Joe Hatfield, Senior Vice President of Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. and President & CEO of Wal-Mart Asia and Mr. Stanley Yu, COO of Wal-Mart (China) Investment Co., Ltd.

At the opening ceremony, officials from various levels of governments expressed their welcome and appreciation to Wal-Mart Supercenter Jinjiang SM Store, and hoped that Wal-Mart would bring along advanced retail technology and philosophy to promote the development of circulation and manufacture industry in Jinjiang. Mr. Stanley Yu, Vice President & COO of Wal-Mart China said that Wal-Mart has operated 50 outlets in 23 cities since it entered China almost nine years ago. Supercenter is the major business format of Wal-Mart China, providing customers with high quality merchandise at low prices under the philosophy of “Every Day Low Price”. Wal-Mart associates are committed to providing the customers with great shopping experience. With over 20,000 merchandising items, the new Wal-Mart store will be able to provide customers with a “One Stop Shopping” experience, saving them time and money. Jinjiang SM store is the 51th store Wal-Mart opened in China. Wal-Mart hopes it can be favored by local citizens and makes contribution to Jinjiang economy.

Following Xiamen SM store, Jinjiang SM Store is Wal-Mart’s second cooperation with SM. The new store occupies a construction area of more than 10,000 square meters; it carries over 20,000 items, including fresh food, apparel, electrical appliances and daily commodities, etc. and has self-support services featuring optical service, jewelry and photo service. Most of the 500 associates are local citizens and have been trained roundly and systematically. In return to the customers’ support, Wal-Mart will offer great promotional valued merchandise and provide a series of entertainment events during the grand opening.

Adhering to Wal-Mart good tradition of engagement in good works, Wal-Mart donated RMB 200,000 to Jinjiang Environmental Protection Bureau for the establishment of automatic noise supervision and control system so as to support the sustainable development strategy and environmental protection programs. Wal-Mart hopes this action can arouse more and more social communities to pay attention to our living environment and make contributions to the construction of eco-city.

Wal-Mart expressed that it was the good investment environment and extensive market in Jinjiang that attracted it to invest in Jinjiang and showed appreciation to various levels of local governments and relative departments for their great supports. Wal-Mart will be continually committed to its philosophy of “Every Day Low Prices” to provide Jinjiang consumers high-quality goods, low prices, and hospitable services, and will also make contributions to the development of economy and the common prosperity of retail and manufacture Industry in Jinjiang.
