Wal-Mart Cares for You Everyday: Stay Healthy

Mar. 13, 2005

Healthy life style for our customers has been Wal-Mart’s top priority and main focus. As the largest retailer in the world, we have operated in China for over 8 years. During years of operation, we always stick to our “Every Day Low Price” operating philosophy and ensure world-standard quality control system by supervising all links including manufacture, packaging, logistics, storage, processing and sales to guarantee quality of every item. Finally, everything we do is to provide healthy life that you deserve to enjoy!

Upon World Consumer Rights Day on March 15, complying with this year’s theme “Healthy & Protecting Your Rights”, we hold “The Fourth Customer Service Day” party to celebrate with our customers nationwide. Together, Wal-Mart associates, customers, and local residents bring wonderful performances. We aim to introduce our strict Quality Control process from merchandise purchase to the sales floor. Moreover, we strive to arouse consumer’s awareness of healthy life and consumer protection (please see in-store posters for details).

Through 8 years’ operation in China, we opened 44 stores including Supercenter, Sam’s Club and Neighborhood Market and we employ over 22,000 associates. The total investment has exceeded RMB 1.6 billion, and taxes paid 1 billion. Direct and indirect merchandise procurement has increased, with USD 18 billion procurement in 2004. As a responsible corporate citizen, we have been enthusiastically involved in community services and our contributions have exceeded RMB 19 million.

In 2004, Wal-Mart’s global sales reached USD 285.2 billion and the company continued to be on the list of the most admired enterprises as well as Fortune’s Global 500. Meanwhile, Wal-Mart was appraised as one of “The Most Admired Companies” and “The Best Employer to Work For” worldwide. The company ranked No. 1 by China Business Weekly as the most favorable company brand in 2004 under trade and tourism category and it is also the only retailer that has ever ranked the 8th among “The Most Admired Companies in China” on Fortune China.
