Wal-Mart Opens Second
Supercenter in Harbin

Harbin, November 11th, 2004 – Wal-Mart grandly opens its
second Supercenter in Harbin today. Local government officials
and Vice Presidents of Wal-Mart China John Reaves and Shawn Gray
attended the opening ceremony.
Local government officials expressed warm welcome and appreciations
to Wal-Mart for bringing two stores into Harbin within two and
a half years.
Mr. Shawn Gray said, Wal-Mart had opened 41 stores in 20 cities
around China in eight-year period, and won favor from local consumers
through its Every Day Low Price and aggressive services. Today’s
inauguration is for Wal-Mart’s 42nd outlet in China. Wal-Mart
hopes to promote Harbin’s economic development and gain popularity
among local consumers.
The Xianfeng Road Branch is about 18,000 square meters in area
and covers two floors. It provides about 18,000 kinds of merchandise,
including fresh food, apparel, household electrical appliances
and household chemicals.
The Supercenter is second to the newly opened store in Wuhan to
have Vision Center and Jewelry Department as well as Photo Center
from grand opening. The Photo Center has a new self-service digital
photo developing machine which can develop digital photos in 11
seconds. Besides, it offers old photo face-lifting service.
Supercenter is Wal-Mart’s major business format in China
and aims to provide customers with high quality merchandise at
low prices as well as aggressive service. It helps to save customer’s
time and money by offering one-stop shopping experience. To appreciate
the customers in Harbin, Wal-Mart offers price promotion for a
series of products and various retailtainment during the grand
opening.
Serving community is Wal-Mart’s tradition. Before the grand
opening, the Supercenter donated RMB100,000 to social welfare cause.
The donation is expected to raise the public’s concern on
social welfare, and together to make contributions to communities.
Wal-Mart China opened its first Supercenter and Sam’s Club
in Shenzhen in August 1996. Since then, Wal-Mart China has opened
41 stores in 20 cities, including Shenzhen, Kunming, Fuzhou, Dalian,
Xiamen, Shantou, Dongguan, Harbin, Changchun, Shenyang, Changsha,
Beijing, Nanchang, Ji'nan, Qingdao, Tianjin, Nanjing, Nanning,
Guiyang and Wuhan. The Xianfeng Road Branch is Wal-Mart’s
42nd outlet in China.
