Wal-Mart Opens Second
Supercenter in Guiyang

Guiyang, November 3rd, 2004 – November 4th, Wal-Mart, the
largest retailer in the world, opens another Supercenter in Guiyang,
about five months after it opened the first Guiyang store in May
28th this year. 
Provincial government officials and Wal-Mart executives attended
the ceremony, which included Mr. Wang Xiaodong, member of the Standing
Committee of Guizhou Party Committee, Secretary of Guiyang municipal
Party Committee, Mr. Sun Guoqiang, Mayor of Guizhou, Mr. Shawn
Gray, Vice President of Wal-Mart China Operations, Mr. John Reaves,
Vice President of Wal-Mart China Merchandizing.
At the ceremony, government officials expressed warm welcome and
appreciations to Wal-Mart for bringing two stores into Guiyang
within six months.
Mr. Shawn Gray said, Wal-Mart had opened 41 stores in 20 cities
around China in eight-year period, and won favor from local consumers
through its Every Day Low Price and aggressive services. The Shachong
Road store is Wal-Mart’s 41st outlet in China and Guiyang
is the 19th city in which Wal-Mart has business. Wal-Mart hopes
to promote Guiyang’s economic development and gain popularity
among local consumers.
The Shachong Road store is close to Guiyang Railway Station and
Guiyang Second Traffic Station which have lines covering over 50
cities and towns in Guizhou. It has a sales floor of about 17,153
square meters and provides about 18,000 kinds of merchandise, including
fresh food, apparel, household electrical appliances and household
chemicals.
Supercenter is Wal-Mart’s major business format in China
and aims to provide customers with high quality merchandise at
low prices as well as aggressive service. It helps to save customer
s’ time and money by offering one-stop shopping experience.
To appreciate the customers in Guiyang, Wal-Mart offers price promotion
for a series of products and various retailtainment during the
grand opening.
Serving community is Wal-Mart’s tradition. Before the grand
opening, the Shachong Road store donated RMB 100,000 to Guiyang
Ergezhai Primary School to build an AV classroom for farmer children
there. The donation is expected to raise the public’s concern
on the farmer children’s education problems, and to call
for joint effort to improve farmer children’s education conditions.
Wal-Mart China opened its first Supercenter and SAM’S CLUB
in Shenzhen in August 1996. Since then, Wal-Mart China has opened
41 stores in 20 cities, including Shenzhen, Kunming, Fuzhou, Dalian,
Xiamen, Shantou, Dongguan, Harbin, Changchun, Shenyang, Changsha,
Beijing, Nanchang, Ji'nan, Qingdao, Tianjin, Nanjing, Nanning,
Guiyang and Wuhan. The Shachong Road store is Wal-Mart’s
41st outlet in China.
