Board of Directors
Meeting in China

Shenzhen, China, March 4th, 2004 – Wal-Mart Stores, Inc.
today announced that it held its first board meeting in China.
The meeting was held in Shenzhen.
“China is important to Wal-Mart in two ways,” said
Rob Walton, Chairman of Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. “We have relied
on it as a source of quality goods for a number of years. Additionally,
we have had retail outlets in China since 1996. We felt the Board
should see first hand the stores and understand the value and significance
of this market. Wal-Mart’s management team and the Board
are excited about this market.”
Wal-Mart China has 35 retail outlets located in 17 cities throughout
China. They operate 30 Supercenters, 3 SAM’S CLUBS and 2
Neighborhood Markets. They have 18,000 associates that work in
the retail operations. Wal-Mart has over 4,900 outlets worldwide,
and employs more than 1.5 million associates in 10 countries.
